We gave Chester the horse one last carrot and headed up towards Injune for a stop at the showground for the night, a pleasant enough spot with a great sunset. Next stop was Roma with its shops and other delights (such as the gin distillery) but we wont go into that. We also made some new friends at the evening happy hour at the club, prices were good and the chats healthy as well – just remember to not take your guns and ammo to the tables….
3 nights there was perfect as we were on hard ground for the rain dump that came through – people elsewhere were coming in with stories of being bogged and needing a tow. Leaving Roma we thought we would continue a little further north through Rolleston and then Springsure before landing in Willow. We did a bush camp (more sunsets and no one else).
Willow was slated for 2 nights but we stayed for 3, it reminds us of Lightning Ridge with how the “houses” are set up. There is no drinking water on tap here so you do need to bring your own, but the rest of the setup for where we are is fine. We bought a Queensland miners licence to go fossicking in the “allowed” areas but alas we didn’t dig anything up. Jo had better luck at finding stones on the ground by walking around in the sun. Sunday night is dinner night at the Rec Club – run by volunteers they make (mostly) fried food so we only bought a plate of chips and 2 take away salads, the prices were really reasonable so check the pic for the salads ($2 each), the chips bowl (full for $4), a stubbie was $4 and the wine glasses you see ….were…. full to the brim for $5!
Tomorrow is moving day, hopefully the pics won’t bore too much. And we have no idea where to when we leave!
