We headed in to Emerald electing to stay at one of the van parks there. Booking in, it turns out that Emerald has a public holiday for the annual show tomorrow (Wednesday), meaning any shopping that needed to be done had to be done today. We strolled past a real estate office - do you want a house with 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 5 car garage, granny flat and a pool for $375k?
What else you do in Emerald on a public holiday – go to the show, Jo frocked up, I got out the dress thongs and off we went, paid our money and walked around, and around, and around….that filled in nearly 2 hours. Jo checked out the SES stand, I checked out the cars, we both checked out an ice cream!
Leaving Emerald we went the back way to Duringa. Heading north for a bit we cut across the farms beneath the ranges and camped next to the Issac River – while there was daytime traffic it stopped around dark, and the stars that night were great. Heading out we took the old Bruce Highway (the Marlborough Sarina Road) we crossed the ranges to see wind turbines and solar farms all over the place.
We took the turn off for Duringa (down 100ks on dirt). We only saw 2 cars all the way, and the second waved us down. Turned out to be a young woman who was lost, had taken a wrong turn and had no idea where she was – thanks to our starlink on the car we worked she was 35ks away from where she wanted to be (and had gone past it…)
Into Duringa to stop at the donation camp for the night. We had a stroll around the historic walk and checked out ‘the sights’. I did think it was funny that outside the post office there was designated parking spots….
