For our stay at the world-famous town of Carinda (pop 180 – and why world famous…read on) we left a donation to the town for the use of the facilities. The only other people staying there left well before us….
Leaving town we took a pic of the world-famous pub before heading to Walgett where we thought we would get into their mineral pools -alas the pool was closed and it seems to be permanent as it needs repairs with a cost beyond the local councils capabilities – it’s a shame as it was a drawcard to the town for the nomads. We did a quick walk of the main street and headed to Boomi.
We have stayed at Boomi before and here they also have hot water bore baths to enjoy, so we booked into the van park for a couple night to top up the power and have a few dips. On our second evening we had motorhome pull in – not new by any means but there was a 20+ woman driving along with her 6 dachshunds, all of which were let loose on the campground. The dogs were uncontrolled and it did cause an uprising in the campers, and after a few hours she got the message and would keep them inside – and sometimes letting a couple out at a time. The old motorhome wouldn’t start the next morning so I gave the van a jump start – it meant going inside to the battery system, and another shower afterwards….
From Boomi we ambled up to a place called Talwood where you can stay at the sports oval, complete with toilets, showers, power and drinkable water and they ask to please leave a donation for all of that. We were the only ones there and we were parked on our own when another couple pulled up asked if they should stay or not – we said there is plenty of room park anywhere in the 10 or so acres around the grounds – their spot they choose was 10 metres from our car and to use the facilities they needed to walk past us. We did leave a donation (and buy and ice cream) for our stay.
With rain on the way, we went to a caravan park in St George to avoid being in mud. The rain arrived, though not as heavily as forecast, and the cool weather came with it. We are still here for now and plan to head to the St George thermal pool this afternoon. We have met some great people (even if they were from NZ) and enjoyed a couple of good chats with the relief staff. They live in Bundaberg and do relief work at caravan parks all over the place. For those who know the history of our caravan park home, they also worked there for the owner between Ted and Ingenia.
Not many pics this time around but it is nice and relaxing, the weather is expected to be back to mid 20’s from tomorrow. If you are still here, Carinda was the place where David Bowie (remember him?) filmed his music video of “Lets Dance”, and the pub was to location where it happened.
