NZ Day 15 – Hokitika, Greymouth and Pancake Rocks

The day started well, I had breakfast, didn't run out of hot water for my $2 shower, managed to remember to brush my hair and I did my shoe laces all by myself. Where I failed was getting the power plug out of the van, no matter what we did the power plug was stuck fast. The only solution was to drive with the cord still attached and "stored" in through the driver's window. Anybody who asks I'll be saying the van is a hybrid and is powering itself from the battery, it's just like a self licking ice cream!
Into Hokitika with the cord out of the window, we bought a coffee and enjoyed the town. It seems to be a place that would be comfortable for a long stay if we could. On another note, NZ is largely a tidy place but I cannot remember seeing a person in a service station cleaning the bollards from top to bottom. It was also interesting to see the sign in a window about the buildings' earthquake assessment.
From there it was 30 minutes up to Greymouth, another nice town. Our highlight there, and it being Saturday was watching a game of rugby union while munching lunch. These guys do play for real with a couple of injuries heading off the paddock, a try scored and a sin binning!
Lunch done and we headed towards Westport and found the Pancake Rocks. This was one of the best no cost attractions so far, with the walk well organised and labelled, allowing you to get right out onto the edge to see everything.
After the walk it was ice cream o'clock before making our way to Westport for the night.
