Not much to report today, with a bit of rain chasing us out of Westport we headed over the other side of the island. Driving along State Highway 6 it was a slow run for the most part with lots of corners.
A couple of times we waited at traffic lights where the one lane of road was cut into the hill, and in one case the rock was scalloped out to make a single lane.
Driving here is not much different to home with a few exceptions, the exclamation sign on every type of warning makes me smile. The speed limits can be an interesting mix as well with village limits as you get to them could be no change to the speed limit, drop to 80, or 70, or 60, or 50 with seemingly no rhyme or reason. Also in some towns the limit in the main street could be 30, with the same in some streets in town off the main roads. Road works are always 30 and passing a school bus stopped is 20, and don't park next to yellow lines or where there is an X inside a red circle.
Lunch was at an historic railway site where you can walk a 1.5km loop track, into and through a 185 metre long tunnel. The tunnel was built in 1923, and the railway completed a year or 2 later. The railway was decommissioned in 1955.
Tonight we are in a free camp close to Renwick after making our way past the best Sav Blanc plonk place in the world if you can believe the signs.
